My Nice Nice Day
It’s like he is in my head.
sit a spell
I got on a bus last Thursday — something I haven’t done since my twenties — and headed to Houston, where I watched a majority of the footage I collected a few years ago for a costume documentary. The idea of watching all the footage had become overwhelming, so Aaron was kind enough to set aside a few days to watch through it with me. We watched at least twenty hours, maybe, and having someone there to make it through the tedious moments and compare notes with really helped. I have probably half a dozen more hours of footage to look through now that I am home, but that prospect doesn’t seem nearly as overwhelming. Once I do that, then we will figure out what happens next. I’m glad I did it. Thanks, Aaron. I hope everyone is well.

Smith County is the geographic center of the 48 contiguous U.S. states, marked by a small monument and picnic ground. And the high school football team in Smith Center, the county seat, had the nation’s longest winning streak snapped at 79 games in 2009.

Last Night in Dreamland
After I’d given up on the clearing of the night skies, I fussed around for a while and read some of Geoff Dyer’s recommended by Phil.

Nelda Mardell, I remember she was pretty up-tight. We got her high one night, and she just sat and looked at the fish in Dale’s aquarium. I was doing something, and then I looked up and she was crying. Perfectly still, not a sound out of her. Just these tears all down her face.

Owl Hauling Day
I was looking at an image of Chicago’s Harold Washington Library Center, and it reminded me of a funny day at work back when I worked there.
It was the day that they put the frosting on the cake, so so speak. It was a Saturday. It was the day that the acroteria were put in place. That was a new word for all of us. Acroteria is the plural form of acroterion: “[a] decorative pedestal for an ornament or statue placed atop the pediment of a Greek temple; the term has also been extended to refer to the statue or ornament that stands on the pedestal.”

Ghosts of America
Not everything in Bonham, Texas is as it appears; this town has bloodcurdling enigmas obscured in the shadows.
From the Ghosts of America site.
My favorites among the site’s posted reports of supernatural encounters are those that are utterly, totally, irretrievably lame.

A pinch of clusterlore
Last night I emailed Deron. Speaking of Amanda Mae’s recent visit to Dallas, I wrote, “I think it is very cool that you and Amy have had Jandek stay at your house.”
This morning I got to thinking. I bet some of you don’t know that before she signed on as an official flocker, Amanda Mae Meyncke posted comments under the guise of Jandek. I won’t say as how anyone was totally, completely, and utterly hoodwinked.
Okay, initially I wondered if maybe someone within the Jandek organization was submitting the comments. Then I suspected Aaron Winslow.
I remember conversations with Deron and Andrew about this. I remember a decision to invite the Jandek person to remove the Jandek mask and contribute to clusterflock as a regular.
Also, I remember Deron asked me to write to the person.
I think the boys were kind of scared.
Also, fish poop.
programming note
So, I’ll be heading to Austin tomorrow to pick up Amanda for the Texas leg of her All You Can Jet tour. My posting tomorrow and Friday will be less than usual. And probably over the next few days as well.

Quote out of context, but really, you don’t need it.
Asked by Colorado public radio to describe his world view, McInnis cited “Seabiscuit” and the concept of working-class Americans succeeding. Pressed on whether he was referring to the movie or the book, he answered that he’s “not an academic.”

Google reader recently recommended that I follow this blog called “clusterflock.” And, while the name is intriguing, I have no idea how anybody could keep up with 110.8 posts per week. Don’t these people have jobs?

I were asked once again to visit Garland, Texas on an errand, I might begin to weep. I know that I would demur.
